So, I get to be the first student blogger

For my first entry, I won’t go into detail about my experience or progress – instead I’ll simply introduce my self and try to set the foundation for what I plan to write about here.

I’m pretty new to Jeet Kune Do. I started a few months ago with several goals in mind. My goals, much like the goals of many other students, are:
1. shed some pounds/get healthy. I have two kids, I want to be there for them as long as possibly can – and I want to lead by example. I want them to grow up and take care of themselves. I want them to live long healthy lives, and be there for my grandkids.
2. Grow some self confidence. Maybe its the small town I grew up in. Or maybe it’s the result of me being on the wrong side of all the social cliques of today’s school system. Either way, I’ve always lacked self confidence. Things as simple as asking for help at Best Buy, or making a phone call to someone other than my wife or parents are difficult for me.
3. Learning to better defend myself and my family. I won’t go into detail, but I DO have some background in martial arts. I’ve always felt confident with that knowledge, and it has served me well on several occassions – but I know that the knowledge I had previously just isn’t enough for MOST situations. I need something that works. Something that is flexible and adaptive. So far, I think I’ve found it.

For my next entry, I’ll try to cover the transition from being extremely out of shape, to just a little out of shape.

To All EDS Adult Students and (Instructors):
    Adult?s Night Out!!

With the holidays fast approaching and before we all get in the typical holiday rush – I thought it might be nice for an end of the year adult?s night out.

Here?s what I was thinking – let?s meet up at Cousin?s Bar and Grill (Perryville and E. State St-Rockford)Saturday 12/1 at 6 p.m. for beverages and possibly dinner.

If you are interested please respond to this post or if you see me at class let me know. I can make the arrangements with the restaurant after I find out the numbers of of attendees. I?d like to have a count of those interested by November 23rd.
    Thanks.

I have always considered myself fairly in-shape, but EDS has changed how I look at being healthy. The workouts that we do are very intense, and I wouldn’t rather have it any other way. Keep up the good work.

I too am a new student to JKD with no backround in martial arts. I am very out of shape and am SLOWLY training and working my way into shape. I will say that in the past 6-8 weeks I have already lost almost 10lbs so that is a plus. I have also learned a few things that would be helpful along the way. I look forward to seeing how i will feel come the holidays as I am only getting in one workout a week with Matt and I run once a week on my own. (The run is only a mile or two..working on it)Everyone has been very helpful. I have eaten my pride a few times when sparring, along with a few high kicks but it is all part of the training I guess. Live and learn. I look forward to the progressand will keep you up to date with how I am feeling and doing.
