ST. JUDE?S MARTIAL ARTS FUNDRAISER

Saturday, March 1, 2008

Welcome Students, Visitors, Friends, and Family!

My name is Matt Numrich, and I am owner and chief instructor of Elite Defense Systems. It gives me great pleasure to announce that we will be hosting a fundraiser for St. Jude?s Children?s Hospital on Saturday, March 1st, 2008. This day will be made up of several different events for all levels, ages, and genders. All are encouraged to participate for this incredible cause.

As you may or may not know, St. Jude?s is a leading center of research and treatment for catastrophic disease in children, primarily pediatric cancer. At Elite Defense Systems, we pride ourselves on supporting the community in any and every way we can, from local causes to large organizations such as St. Jude?s. If you want to research more on St. Jude?s, please check out www.StJude.org .

EVERYTHING GOES TO ST. JUDE?S

As stated before, this fundraiser will consist of many different events for all levels. Below you?ll find a schedule of these events. Please keep in mind, we?ll be running these events simultaneously at each of our locations in Bloomingdale and

Rockford. The seminars will ask for a suggested donation, but please realize that you can give more. We have set the seminar costs at 25% of what we would regularly charge for these events. At EDS we are donating all of our time, in addition to other funds to get the word out about this special event. All funds raised will go directly to St. Jude?s, and all donations are tax deductible.

It is our goal as a school to raise $5,000 during this one day. We will need everyone?s help to reach this goal. Therefore, if you?re reading this, we need you! A good portion of this goal will be realized through our Grapple-A-Thon. This is an event where we get to leverage several peoples? giving, even if they cannot be there. The balance will need to be made up through donations of the other seminars. So review the events below and see what events you can invite people to, and attend yourself. If your business or workplace can match funds up to a certain amount, please contact me directly. Or, if you or a business would like to donate supplies, please let us know asap! We look forward in seeing you there!

Noon-1pm: ADULT SELF-DEFENSE SEMINAR (CO-ED)

Too many martial arts programs make self-defense too complex for the average person. You do not have to be an ancient martial arts master or a steroid pumped cage fighter to truly defend yourself. You do have to learn some simple distinctions, which will keep you safe. In this seminar, we?ll cover these little known secrets, and how to use them in real life attacks. Here, we?ll cover:

  • The 5 areas of self-defense
  • Bruce Lee?s simple secrets of how to beat bigger and stronger opponents
  • What is trapping range, and how to use it effectively
  • The number one secret you must know in weapons defense
  • Why ?punching? is one of the worse things you can do in defending yourself
  • How to train properly in self-defense
  • Tons more!
  • Suggested Donation: $5

1-3pm: ADULT BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU SEMINAR

Ground fighting is big since the explosion of the Ultimate Fighting Championships! Being that we teach exciting ground fighting classes at our school, and have been for a long time, we?re seen as one of the area?s leading authorities in this range. Our students will be surprised that most of the info in this seminar is totally new to them, while adult beginners get an edge by learning some fantastic new moves. Here is just a sample of what will be covered:

  • Escapes from triangles
  • ?Sequence locks?
  • Street options you have to have in your arsenal
  • Escapes from arm bars
  • Counters from chokes
  • Shoulder locks
  • 4 variations of leg locks
  • Tons more!
  • Suggested donation: $10

3-5pm: TWO HOUR GRAPPLE-A-THON

This is the premier event of the day! Challenge yourself to last a full 120 minutes on the ground. We?ll be using this event to raise money for St. Jude?s by participants being pledged in 15-minute increments. Your goal may be to only last 45 minutes, or 3 ? 15 minute increments. Or, you might want to go for the gold and last all 8 ? 15 minute increments. Whatever your goal, we?ll help pass the time, so the minutes fly by. Every 15 minutes you stay on the mat, more money goes to saving children?s lives (how about that for motivation!).

Here are some people who could pledge you:

  • Friends
  • Family members
  • Extended family members
  • Co-workers
  • Annoying co-workers
  • Supervisors
  • Employees
  • Church members
  • Neighbors
  • Friend?s friends
  • Complete strangers
  • Spouses
  • Your children
  • Organizations
  • Businesses
  • Churches
  • Anyone!

If someone pledges you $2 for every 15 minutes, and you shoot for one hour, that would be $8. If you last the full two hours, and get someone to pledge you $5 per 15 minute increment, that would be $40. If you get an organization to pledge $50 per increment, and you last 90 minutes, that would be $300. So whatever you can do, however many people you can have pledge you, all will help. Really.

OUR GOAL FOR THIS EVENT

It is our goal as a school to get 30 participants who can get 10 people to pledge $2 per increment for the full 2 hours. Please understand that we know not everyone will be willing to go for the full 2 hours. So do not use this as an excuse, as everyone is at different levels and abilities. If you can only go an hour, then shoot to get $4 per increment, or find 20 people at $2 per increment. On the other hand, if you only go for 30 minutes, and only found one person who pledged you 50 cents, you?re doing more than the person who never tried at all. Everyone counts!

We look forward in doing this event together? Whether you are a student, friend/family member of a student, or visitor who got referred to this site. We all count in helping out, which is why I will be rolling for the full 2 hours right beside you. Let?s have fun, and be grateful in having this opportunity to help those who had some early challenges in life!

Take care and God Bless!

Sincerely,

Matt Numrich, Chief Instructor

    This sounds amazing matt.
If my foot is in decent shape, count me in for an hour of grappling.

I will also talk my wife, sisters, and daughter into attending some seminars.
