There are many ways to sabotage plans and schedules. The one that comes to mind is non-communication. Your family, friends, support system, whatever, need to be included in your planning. A good example is training at EDS. I have discussed my schedule with my wife Maureen and we have agreed on days and times I will train and therefore not be available for other activities. She now knows what days and times I am available and can plan activities for us without having to check with me.

Besides being a good way to keep peace in our marriage (31+ years and counting), it insures that I will be able to keep training and (I hope) improving.

I wasn't much of a reader either in the early years. The paradox of your comments, Matt, is that as unpleasant as it was to sit down and read something you "had" to read, the easier and more rewarding it got. Speaking of quotes, Sylvester Stalone was asked once why he works so hard to keep his body in shape, and he said because that's what he uses to carry his brain around it. It turns out Sly is pretty smart. Your message is right on the money Matt. Read every day. If you don't like something, put it down and get something else the next day. Even if it is just the newspaper online. Read.

The thing to remember about goals is that they should not be the terminus of your journey but just mileposts. If your goal is to be able to run a mile in 8 minutes do you quit training when you achieve that? Of course not. You set a new goal of 7 minutes. Likewise, when I land that new job, I won't stop updating and posting my resume, I'll start the hunt for the new and better position.

There really should be only one "done". If you ever feel you are done, climb in the box and give me a call. I'll come throw the dirt on you.

I love Rocky IV. That movie single handedly ended the cold war.
Rocky's speach at the end...that's it...war over.
